Environmental
Yes, the majority of our products comply with ISO14001 and cause no harm to the environment.
This means our vapour capsules and VCI plastics contain no amines or nitrites but perform the same as those that do making it the best choice for the environment. VCI plastic is recyclable under recycling code 4.
We also offer a wide range of truely biodegradable coatings, oils and corrosion prevention products.
We offer a range of high performance and sustainable lubricants, hydraulic oils and cutting fluids that are biodegradable. This includes products suitable for use in hydraulic, automotive, diesel, military, agricultural and food processing applications.
We also offer biodegradable VCI products that can be used in wet or dry layup applications for the protection of tanks, voids, ship hulls and so on.
The Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive is a European initiative that requires no heavy metals or other hazardous products to be present. Our products comply with RoHS.
These are European standards that dictate what can and can’t be used in products sold in Europe. We adopt these standards in Australia as they set the benchmark for best practice. REACH stands for the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals and was first developed in 2006. It covers off substances of very high concern (SVHC) so you’ll see us use the acronym REACH (SVHC).
TRGS 615 is a standard that provides restrictions on the use of anti-corrosion agents whose use can lead to the formation of n-nitrosamines. Most nitrosamines are carcinogenic in nonhuman animals hence the control on them.
Products
If you use the products in accordance with the instructions the product will do its job to prevent or limit corrosion. For a visual indication, we are able to supply test metal coupons that can be used to measure corrosion rates in areas with and without VCI protection. These metal coupons provide a rapid, visual indication of what is occurring.
VCI’s can be used in any environment with no measurable chemical interaction with other elements. There is no likelihood that the corrosion inhibitor will enhance flammability or react with industrial or marine atmospheres to create any by-products. As such VCI’s are safe to use in all situations.
X-Rust plastic products have an in-service life of two years or more when protecting clean metal surfaces and when used as recommended. Barrier films protect for 5+ years.
Vapor capsules protect for either one or two years and plastabs protect for two years.
The service life of our high-performance desiccant depends upon the climate that it is used in, but ranges from a few months to six months.
X-Rust products have a shelf life of up to two years when the product is stored in its original packaging, out of direct sunlight and under shelter.
The shelf life is the duration of time that unused X-Rust products can be stored prior to use without losing their effectiveness. Typically this is two years if stored correctly.
The in-service life is the duration of time that the VCI products will protect clean metal objects from corrosion if used properly. This is as follows:
5 years: Barrier films
2 years: VCI plastics (firearm tube, firearm and fishing bags, tube strip, car and motorbike bags)
2 years: Plastabs, vapor capsules
1 year: Vapor capsules
3-6 months: High-performance desiccant (depends on weather etc)
